In the pre-dawn hours of April 10, 2021, 78-year-old Ivan Maik, a White male, drove to a medical facility in Arlington, Washington, for his routine dialysis appointment, a trip he made three times a week. A lifelong resident of Snohomish County, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and a retired Forest Service worker, Maik lived a quiet and simple life. On this particular morning, his journey took a tragic and fatal turn.
