In the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 28-year-old Tyler Raymond, a White/Caucasian male, was cut short in an Interbay parking lot in Seattle, Washington. Raymond was found deceased at the scene around 3:30 a.m. His girlfriend, who was present in their vehicle, reportedly told investigators she was asleep when the incident occurred.
She mentioned they had parked in the lot while Raymond was allegedly stealing from other vehicles in the vicinity.
The investigation into Raymond's death led authorities to 77-year-old Thomas Alfred Donaghe. Donaghe had previously contacted the police to report that his own vehicle had been burglarized in the same parking lot. During that report, he expressed a belief that the perpetrator would return and grimly suggested that the police should bring the medical examiner with them when they came back. Evidence uncovered from Donaghe's phone, in the form of text messages, revealed that he had purchased a rifle with the intent to confront the person who had broken into his vehicle.
On the night of the fatal encounter, Donaghe confronted Raymond in the parking lot and shot him. Following the shooting, Donaghe fled the scene and disposed of the rifle by throwing it into the water. He later confessed to the killing during a police interview. King County prosecutors subsequently filed a first-degree murder charge against Thomas Alfred Donaghe. Citing his lack of ties to the Seattle area and the extreme danger he posed to the community, the state requested a bail of $2 billion. If convicted, Donaghe faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison.
Tyler Raymond was remembered by his loved ones for his bright smile, goofy personality, and kind heart. His obituary noted his early years in Muskegon, Michigan, and a period of his life spent in Alaska before he and his girlfriend relocated to Seattle in 2018. He is survived by his daughter, parents, and numerous other family members and friends who continue to mourn his passing.
