In what was described as a shocking act of violence, 63-year-old Shaunie Katherine Hay, a female, was found deceased in her Mountlake Terrace, Washington, home on Thursday, March 24, 2022. Police had initially responded to the residence following a report of a possible suicide.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered both Shaunie Hay and her 65-year-old husband, Robert Hay, in their bedroom. Robert Hay was found with a gun in his hand.
Initially, there were no visible signs of trauma on Shaunie Hay. However, a later investigation by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office determined that she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the neck.
The authorities have since classified the incident as a murder-suicide. The investigation concluded that Robert Hay was the sole suspect in his wife's homicide and that he subsequently took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There have been no other arrests or suspects identified in connection with Shaunie Hay's death, as the investigation concluded that her husband acted alone.
