In the quiet town of Oroville, Washington, the life of a compassionate nurse was tragically cut short. Siri Carina Zosel, a 46-year-old White/Caucasian female, was found deceased in her home on the evening of April 16, 2022. Born in Torrance, California, on September 9, 1975, Siri had dedicated her life to caring for others, working in various hospitals with a special talent for surgical and emergency care. She had recently relocated to Oroville to care for her grandmother and continued her nursing career at a hospital in nearby Tonasket.
Concern grew among Siri's friends when they were unable to reach her. One friend went to her residence on Westlake Road to check on her and was met by Siri's boyfriend, 70-year-old Roy Rasmussen of Okanogan, who reportedly seemed defensive. Later that evening, the friend's husband returned to the home, and upon gaining entry, he made a grim discovery: Siri was lying on the floor, deceased. Rasmussen informed the man that she had been dead for approximately two days.
The Okanogan County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the residence around 8:16 p.m. for what was initially reported as a domestic dispute. Upon their arrival, deputies found Siri's body inside the home, along with Rasmussen and another man. Medics confirmed she was deceased. Rasmussen, who had been in a dating relationship with Zosel, was taken into custody and transported to the sheriff's office for questioning.
During the interview with detectives, Roy Rasmussen confessed to shooting Siri Zosel. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Okanogan County Corrections Center on a charge of first-degree murder. In July 2024, a jury found Rasmussen guilty of first-degree murder, a conviction that also included a special firearms allegation. His sentencing was scheduled for August 21, 2024, where he faced a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
