On a Saturday morning, August 20, 2022, in Granite Falls, Washington, 27-year-old Jordan Isaiah Hurtado, a Hispanic male, was shot and killed. The incident, which was later ruled a homicide, occurred in the 21100 block of Gun Club Road. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner confirmed that the cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds.
The tragic event unfolded after an argument between Hurtado and a stranger at the Iron Mountain Quarry where Hurtado worked.
On a day he had reportedly come in to assist with a welding project, Hurtado had an exchange with Finley Hilde at the quarry's weigh station. According to reports, Hurtado inquired about the type of rock in Hilde's truck. Following the verbal dispute, both men moved out of the view of a surveillance camera. A short time later, Hurtado was seen falling to the ground after several gunshots were heard.
Law enforcement officials arrested the suspected shooter, Finley Hilde, on the same day as the shooting. Authorities located Hilde a few minutes after he fled the scene in a truck that had his last name written on the side. Inside the vehicle, deputies discovered two pistols and ammunition. During the investigation, Hilde reportedly told detectives that he did not know Hurtado but claimed to have heard a voice from God giving him permission to shoot. He also stated that he could see into a person's soul and felt concerned for his safety.
Further investigation revealed that Hilde was also the suspect in another fatal shooting that had occurred just fourteen hours prior in Burlington. In that incident, he allegedly shot another man in the back. Following a competency evaluation, a judge found Hilde fit to stand trial for the charges against him in both cases. Bail for Hilde was set at $3 million.
