She was the victim of a fatal shooting in what law enforcement has described as a road rage incident on U.S. Highway 2 near Skykomish. On that Saturday evening, Raelyn was returning from a trip to Leavenworth's Oktoberfest with friends. At approximately 7:48 p.m., an altercation began with another vehicle, described as a dark-colored Subaru SUV with a roof-mounted cargo basket. The situation escalated, and an occupant of the Subaru discharged a firearm into the Kia Sorrento in which Davis was a passenger, striking her. Despite the efforts of those present, Raelyn Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Washington State Patrol immediately launched a homicide investigation into the senseless act of violence. Investigators appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone who was traveling on Highway 2 between Monroe and Leavenworth on the evening of the incident to come forward with any information or dashcam footage that might help identify the suspect vehicle and its occupants.
