In the quiet community of Washougal, Washington, a tragic event unfolded on the afternoon of December 8, 2022, ending the life of 73-year-old Carol Lynne Rossi. A female resident of the town, her death sent ripples of shock through the otherwise peaceful neighborhood.
Around 1:00 p.m. that Thursday, the Clark County Sheriff's Office received a distressing 911 call from a male at a residence near Southeast Sunset View Road and Southeast Evergreen Highway.
The caller reported hearing a gunshot inside the house and stated he was going to investigate before the line disconnected. Dispatchers were unable to re-establish contact.
Upon their swift arrival, deputies from the sheriff's office, along with officers from the Washougal and Camas police departments, peered into the home and saw a person on the ground and a man slumped over at the kitchen counter. Forcing entry into the residence, they discovered both Carol and her 78-year-old husband, Roberto Rossi, with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads.
Though both were still breathing when law enforcement found them, and first aid was immediately rendered before they were rushed to a local trauma hospital, Carol Lynne Rossi succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Roberto Rossi was listed in critical condition following the incident and later died. The Clark County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case as a murder-suicide attempt. Authorities have indicated that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and the investigation suggests Roberto Rossi was the sole suspect in his wife's death. No arrests were made in connection with the tragic event.
