On a quiet evening in Beattyville, Kentucky, the life of 36-year-old Patricia Gail Creech Lutes came to a violent and sudden end. On November 10, 2014, a neighbor was startled by the sound of a gunshot around 6:30 p.m. Stepping outside, they discovered Patricia lying in the roadway near her mailbox on Highway 2016, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
She was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lee County Coroner's office.
Patricia, a member of the Tar Ridge Church of God, was a mother to three children, D.J., Alexandria 'Ally,' and Vanessa Yeary. She was survived by her husband, Robert E. Lutes, and her mother, Gladys Spencer Creech. The Kentucky State Police immediately launched a murder investigation into her death, a case that has remained unsolved, leaving a shadow over the small community. In the years following her death, Patricia's family has made public appeals for any information that could lead to the identification of her killer, desperate for closure and justice.
The aftermath of Patricia's death brought forth legal complications concerning her life insurance policy. UNUM Life Insurance Company of America filed a case to determine the rightful beneficiary, as her husband, Robert Lutes, was named as the primary beneficiary. This legal proceeding added another layer to the tragic circumstances of her unsolved murder.
A few years later, another woman connected to Robert Lutes would meet a similarly tragic fate. Mary Jo Allen, who was dating Robert at the time, went missing in August 2017 and her remains were later found. While no official charges have been filed in Patricia's murder, the unresolved nature of her death continues to haunt her family and the community of Beattyville.
