In the late hours of a Friday night in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, a violent encounter led to the tragic death of 56-year-old Victor L. Wilson. On May 6, 2017, the Fayette County Coroner's Office confirmed his passing in the early morning hours at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. The cause of his death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds.
Wilson was a Black/African American male.
The shooting occurred on East Locust Street, where police responded to a call of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered Wilson, who had been shot multiple times. The investigation into the incident led Mount Sterling Police to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting.
Following the investigation, authorities arrested 53-year-old James F. Taul. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and booked into the Montgomery County Jail. The community mourned the loss of Victor Wilson, with a memorial service held on May 13, 2017, at the Evergreen Baptist Church in Mount Sterling. Family and friends gathered to pay their respects and remember his life.
