On September 28, 2012, Mushun Franklin, a 33-year-old man, was fatally shot in the West Garfield Park neighborhood of Chicago. The homicide occurred on a public street, which is not uncommon in this area of Chicago, where violent crime has been a persistent issue. Franklin's death added to the high number of gun-related deaths in the city that year.
