In the fall of 2018, a tragedy unfolded in a Georgetown, Kentucky, apartment that left a community in mourning and two young children without their parents. On the afternoon of November 8th, the life of 26-year-old Nicole L. 'Nikki' Stininger was cut short in what investigators would later describe as a murder-suicide.
Friends and family remember Nikki as a selfless, bubbly, and happy individual who could light up a room with her smile.
She was a mother to two children, a four-year-old and an 18-month-old. Her life, however, took a devastating turn inside her Myers Drive apartment in the Red Oak complex.
That afternoon, a friend of Nikki's received a distressing text message, indicating that someone in the apartment had a gun. This friend promptly called 911. When Georgetown police officers arrived at the scene, they heard three muffled gunshots from within the residence. Upon entering the apartment, they made a grim discovery.
Inside, they found Nikki Stininger and her boyfriend, 26-year-old Brent M. Wood, both deceased. The Scott County Coroner later confirmed that Wood had shot and killed Stininger before turning the gun on himself. Tragically, their 18-month-old child was found unharmed in the apartment, covered in the mother's blood. The couple's older child was not present at the time of the incident. The motive behind the violent act remained unclear to friends, who expressed shock, stating that nobody saw this coming.
