On a tragic afternoon in Oak Grove, Kentucky, the life of O'Shia Young, a 26-year-old Black female, was cut short in an act of violence. The incident unfolded on June 29, 2020, at Gilkey's Mobile Home Park on Eddy Street. It was there that Joshua Hyde, an 18-year-old, opened fire, fatally wounding Young with a gunshot to the chest.
In the ensuing chaos, Hyde also shot another woman, injuring her before turning the gun on himself.
When authorities arrived, both O'Shia Young and Joshua Hyde were pronounced dead at the scene. The second woman was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville for medical treatment.
The investigation into the shooting determined it to be a murder-suicide. As the perpetrator, Joshua Hyde, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with O'Shia Young's death. The motive behind the violent encounter remains unclear, leaving a community to mourn a life taken too soon.
