In the quiet community of West Liberty, Kentucky, a domestic disturbance on October 22, 2020, escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 41-year-old Randy Haney. That Thursday, Kentucky State Police from Post 8 in Morehead were called to a residence in Morgan County to respond to a report of domestic violence. Upon their arrival and through subsequent investigation, it was determined that a physical altercation had occurred between Randy Haney and a woman named Deloris Haney.
The
conflict took a fatal turn when a juvenile, whose identity has not been publicly released, retrieved a firearm amidst the turmoil. The juvenile discharged the weapon, striking Mr. Haney. Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and he was quickly transported to Appalachian Regional Healthcare in West Liberty to be treated for what were described as life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Randy Haney succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by the Morgan County Coroner, Raymond Vancleave.
The incident prompted a full investigation by the Kentucky State Police, who were assisted at the scene by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Morgan County EMS, and the West Liberty Police Department. Randy Dale Haney, a resident of Hazel Green, was a father of three sons and worked as a tree trimmer. He was remembered by his family for his love of the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and camping with his children. His funeral service was held the following week, with burial in the Haney Cemetery in Hazel Green.
