In the quiet city of Owensboro, Kentucky, the life of Shannon Michelle Buchler, a 49-year-old White female, was tragically cut short on the night of January 26, 2022. At approximately 9:43 PM, officers from the Owensboro Police Department were dispatched to the 100 block of East 25th Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene. Shannon was found deceased, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The violence of that evening extended to two other individuals, an adult male and a juvenile female, who were also found at the scene with life-threatening gunshot injuries.
The investigation into the triple shooting quickly pointed towards a domestic disturbance. Detectives identified the injured adult male, 58-year-old Mark E. Griffith, as the suspect. Authorities believe that Griffith, who was described as Buchler's significant other, was the perpetrator of the violence. The sequence of events, as pieced together by investigators, suggests Griffith first shot and killed Shannon Buchler. He then turned the weapon on the juvenile female before shooting himself.
Following the incident, Mark E. Griffith was arrested and faced a series of serious charges for his alleged actions on that fatal night. The Owensboro Police Department charged him with murder for Shannon's death, in addition to first-degree assault and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment related to the injuries of the other victims. He was subsequently taken into custody and held at the Daviess County Detention Center as the community mourned the violent loss of Shannon Michelle Buchler.
