In the early morning hours of a Monday in Bath County, Kentucky, the life of 44-year-old Earl James Stephens of Mt. Sterling was tragically cut short. On July 25, 2022, shortly before 6 a.m., state troopers responded to a call at a residence on Adams Road. Inside, they discovered Earl Stephens, who had been fatally shot. The news of his violent death sent ripples through the community.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to three individuals.
As the day progressed, law enforcement located and arrested two suspects, 32-year-old Michael Walker and Brittany Reed. Walker was charged with murder, while Reed faced a charge of complicity to murder. Later that evening, just before 11 p.m., the third suspect, Christopher Turner, was also apprehended and charged with murder. All three were subsequently lodged at the Rowan County Detention Center.
Earl Stephens was remembered as a man of many talents, a 'jack-of-all-trades' who enjoyed mechanic and carpentry work. He had a passion for the outdoors, often spending his time fishing or riding his motorcycle. Friends recalled his love for fast cars and his skill in giving tattoos. He was also a devoted companion to his three dogs, Boss, Rico, and Diesel. His passing left a void in the lives of his family, including his son, two daughters, and three grandchildren.
