On September 29, 1983, Rudolph H. Blythe Jr., aged 42, was tragically killed in an ambush near Tyler, Minnesota. Blythe, who was the president of the Buffalo Ridge State Bank in Ruthton, Minnesota, was accompanied by Deems 'Toby' Thulin, a 37-year-old loan officer from the same bank. The two bankers had driven to an abandoned dairy farm, previously owned by the Jenkins family, to meet a man they believed to be a prospective buyer for the property.
