In the quiet city of Winona, Minnesota, a tragic event unfolded on a Friday afternoon in May. On May 15, 2015, police were called to a home on the 1500 block of West King Street. Inside, they discovered the body of 75-year-old Carol Lee Alexander-Pickart, a White female who had been fatally shot in the head. The scene that greeted the officers was one of somber and shocking violence.
Also found in the residence was 84-year-old Jerome Ralph Pickart, who was suffering from a severe head
injury. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His injuries were believed to be self-inflicted. The following day, Jerome Pickart succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation that followed pointed towards a murder-suicide. Authorities identified Carol as the victim of a homicide and Jerome as the perpetrator who then took his own life.
