Investigations revealed that the attack was planned, with Ulrich bringing a handgun and explosive devices to the facility. He was no stranger to law enforcement, and a police report from 2018 indicated that he had previously made threats of "mass violence" toward Allina Health facilities. Following the shooting, the Wright County Attorney's Office announced plans to charge Ulrich with second-degree murder, four counts of first-degree premeditated attempted murder, and possession of an explosive device.
