In the winter of 2022, a dispute that began with a minor traffic accident in Southeast Washington, D.C. escalated into a fatal encounter for 33-year-old Brooklyn Michael Lynn. On the afternoon of December 14th, a vehicle collision occurred in the 2700 block of Good Hope Road SE. Lynn, a resident of Southeast D.C., was not involved in the initial crash but arrived at the scene after the female driver of one of the cars, described as his partner, called him for assistance.
An altercation
ensued between Lynn and the driver of the other vehicle, 44-year-old Anthony Williams of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Witnesses reported that Lynn approached Williams, who was waiting in his car for police to arrive, and the confrontation turned physical. Williams told investigators that Lynn punched him in the face with a closed fist. In what he claimed was an act of self-defense, Williams then drew a 9mm handgun and fired a single shot, striking Lynn in the left shoulder.
Emergency services were called to the scene where they found Lynn unconscious and unresponsive. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. Williams was arrested at the scene and an illegal handgun was recovered. He was initially charged with second-degree murder while armed. However, during legal proceedings, his attorney argued that Williams was 'violently attacked' and had defended himself. While the case was still under investigation, Williams was released on GPS monitoring.
