On the evening of July 19, 1978, 63-year-old Joe Gerry, a white male, was seated at the bar of the Mir-O-Bar, a downtown Denver drinking establishment. The routine sounds of the evening were suddenly shattered by a loud noise that startled the patrons. Shortly after, those inside the bar discovered that Gerry had been shot.
