Born healthy at 8 pounds, Jashawn weighed only 4 pounds, 13 ounces at the time of his death. His mother, Shawnquail Minnis, was later charged with first-degree murder for allegedly allowing him to starve. Authorities reported that his body showed signs of extreme malnutrition, with visible bones beneath his skin. The case attracted attention for the severe neglect involved, and Minnis was held on a $2 million bond.
