In a quiet west Denver neighborhood, the night of May 21, 1992, was shattered by a sudden act of violence that claimed the life of 23-year-old Carlos Luna. A Hispanic male, Luna was at his home near the intersection of West 13th Avenue and Tennyson Street when a loud party across the street grew increasingly unruly. Disturbed by the noise, he shouted at the partygoers to lower the music.
Shortly after the verbal exchange, a vehicle carrying individuals from the party drove by Luna's
house. Words were exchanged between Luna and the occupants of the car. The vehicle then circled back, and in a second pass, shots were fired from inside the car, fatally wounding Luna.
The Denver Police Department investigated the homicide, but the case eventually went cold. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Carlos Luna, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities continue to ask for anyone with information regarding the case to come forward as they seek to bring those responsible to justice for a life cut short over a plea for quiet.
