On a late summer evening in Denver, Colorado, what began as a casual conversation for 18-year-old Ernest Anselmo Gallegos ended in a fatal encounter. It was September 6, 2003, and the young man, a White male, had just been speaking with a group of females in a vehicle near West 10th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. Shortly after driving away, as he headed southbound on Federal Boulevard, a dark-colored vehicle menacingly pulled up alongside his car.
In a sudden burst of violence, shots were
fired from the other vehicle directly into Ernest's car. The unexpected attack caused him to lose control, and his vehicle ultimately crashed into a pole. The assailants fled the scene, leaving behind a chaotic and tragic aftermath. Emergency services were called, and Ernest was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of his injuries.
