On a late summer evening in Denver, Colorado, what began as a casual conversation for 18-year-old Ernest Anselmo Gallegos ended in a fatal encounter. It was September 6, 2003, and the young man, a White male, had just been speaking with a group of females in a vehicle near West 10th Avenue and Federal Boulevard. Shortly after driving away, as he headed southbound on Federal Boulevard, a dark-colored vehicle menacingly pulled up alongside his car.
