In the late summer of 2005, a promising life was abruptly cut short in a Denver alley. Samuel Cameron, a 25-year-old Black male, was found deceased on August 23rd, lying next to his car near the intersection of Pennsylvania and Bayaud avenues. The young man, described by his father as funny, charming, smart, and intelligent, had been shot twice in the back of the head in what investigators believe was a calculated act.
At the time of his death, he was a father to two young children and his wife was pregnant with twin girls.
The circumstances surrounding the murder suggest a betrayal of trust. Law enforcement and his family believe that the person who pulled the trigger was known to Samuel, as it was unlikely he would have allowed a stranger into his vehicle. It is thought that there were two individuals with him in the car: one in the passenger seat and the gunman in the backseat. After the shooting, his body was dragged from the car and left in the alley. His family suspects robbery may have been a motive, as a watch and some money were missing.
In the immediate aftermath of the killing, a neighbor witnessed two men fleeing the scene. One suspect was described as a Black man between 18 and 24 years old, standing approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 180 pounds, with short hair. The second suspect was also described as a Black man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds. Several hours after the murder, two men, believed to be the killers, burglarized Samuel's apartment.
Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made. The Denver Police Department considers it an ongoing cold case investigation. While potential suspects have been looked at over the years, none have been definitively identified or charged. The lack of resolution has left Samuel Cameron's family in a state of prolonged grief, continually hoping that someone will come forward with information that could finally bring them closure and justice.
