In the early morning hours of July 1, 2017, the quiet of a Denver neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At the intersection of 29th Avenue and York Street, a violent encounter left two men with critical injuries. One of these men was Donald 'Don' Sperow, a 35-year-old Caucasian male. The incident unfolded around midnight when neighbors reported hearing two gunshots in quick succession.
In the immediate aftermath, a red sedan was seen speeding away from the scene, heading westbound on 29th Avenue before disappearing into the night.
First responders arrived to a grim scene, finding both Donald Sperow and another man, 40-year-old Troy Funchess, lying in the street with gunshot wounds. Both men were rushed to Denver Health Medical Center. Tragically, Donald Sperow succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital that same night.
