In the spring of 2018, an argument between a father and son in a quiet Adams County apartment took a tragic and fatal turn. On the afternoon of April 28th, 52-year-old David Robitaille was shot and killed, a single gunshot wound to his head ending his life. The man responsible was his own son, 27-year-old Waylon Robitaille. The incident, which occurred at a residence on Broadway Street, set in motion a chain of events that would lead to a lengthy prison sentence for the younger Robitaille.
Following the shooting, law enforcement was called to the scene where they discovered David Robitaille deceased. The subsequent investigation quickly focused on his son, Waylon, as the primary suspect. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with his father's death. The initial narrative provided by Waylon suggested a struggle over the firearm led to an accidental discharge. However, the evidence collected by investigators painted a different and more deliberate picture of the events that transpired.
As the case proceeded through the legal system, the prosecution presented evidence indicating that the shooting was not an accident. They argued that Waylon Robitaille was several feet away from his father when he fired the fatal shot, striking him between the eyes. Faced with the evidence against him, Waylon Robitaille ultimately pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of second-degree murder in April of the following year. In June 2019, a judge sentenced him to 32 years in prison for the death of his father, bringing a somber conclusion to a domestic dispute that ended in a man's untimely death.
