In the quiet community of Ignacio, Colorado, the life of 63-year-old GloriaMae Casias came to a tragic end on March 10, 2019. A resident of Ignacio, she was found deceased in a home near Oxford following a report of gunshots in the early morning hours. The events that unfolded pointed to a grim domestic dispute that concluded in a murder-suicide.
Authorities, including the Southern Ute Police, Durango police, and the La Plata County Sheriff's Office, responded to the scene where they
discovered the bodies of Casias and her 57-year-old boyfriend, Edward Ogden. The investigation concluded that Ogden had shot Casias multiple times before taking his own life. Law enforcement utilized a tactical robot to search the home, where they found a handgun.
Prior to the fatal incident, there had been an indication of turmoil. Deputies had spoken with Ogden the previous evening, during which he alleged that he had been assaulted by Casias's son-in-law. Investigators believe that domestic violence was the motive behind the tragic events. With the deaths of both Casias and Ogden, the case was considered closed, as there were no other suspects identified or arrests made in connection with the incident. Her family requested that those attending her celebration of life wear purple to honor and support all who have suffered from domestic violence.
