In a tragic turn of events, a 56-year-old woman, Robin A. Barrett, was found deceased in her Fort Collins, Colorado, home on the morning of February 17, 2020. Authorities had responded to a report of a shooting at a residence on Lynn Drive, where they discovered her body and an injured man.
The investigation revealed a grim sequence of events, identifying the man as 47-year-old Scott Rothgery, also of Fort Collins.
It was determined that Rothgery and Barrett were in a romantic relationship and resided together. Evidence suggests that an argument between the couple escalated, culminating in Rothgery shooting Barrett before turning the gun on himself. Rothgery was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Larimer County Coroner's Office officially ruled Barrett's death a homicide caused by a gunshot wound. Rothgery's death was ruled a suicide. Friends and family remember Robin as a vibrant woman with an infectious smile who had a deep love for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and riding her Harley motorcycle. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, she had specialized in culinary arts during her service. Her obituary describes her as a fearless and life-loving individual who was tragically taken in an act of domestic violence.
