In the late morning of June 28, 2021, a grim discovery was made in Aurora, Colorado. Seteria Nicole Black, a 30-year-old Black/African American female, was found lying in the grass outside an apartment complex at 695 North Dillon Way. She was bleeding from a gunshot wound and, despite being transported to the hospital, succumbed to her injuries. The Aurora Police Department's Major Crimes Homicide Unit immediately began an investigation into her death, which was ruled a homicide.
Investigators quickly identified a primary suspect: 45-year-old Eric Huff. His connection to Seteria was not a new one and was marked by a history of violence. In 2018, Huff had been arrested and charged with kidnapping her. Those charges were serious, including aggravated extortion, weapon possession by a convicted felon, and felony menacing. At the time of that incident, Huff was on parole, having been released in August 2017 after serving part of a 24-year sentence for a second-degree murder conviction in Denver. The legal proceedings in the kidnapping case were complicated when Seteria chose not to cooperate with the prosecution after Huff posted a $100,000 bond.
Tragically, on the very day of Seteria's murder, which was also his 45th birthday, Eric Huff was scheduled to appear in a Boulder court for sentencing in the 2018 kidnapping case. Before authorities could formally bring charges against him for Seteria's death, another chapter in the case unfolded. On July 9, 2021, Denver Police responded to a shooting call in the 700 block of South Alton Way and found Eric Huff deceased. Denver authorities stated there was nothing criminal in nature regarding his death. With the sole suspect in Seteria Nicole Black's murder now also dead, the Aurora Police Department closed their investigation into her killing.
