In the summer of 2021, a grim discovery was made in Denver, Colorado, that brought a violent end to the life of 59-year-old Johnny Quintana. On August 4th, police were called to the 8100 block of East 29th Avenue, where they found Quintana's body. The initial investigation at the scene suggested a violent struggle, and it was soon clear that this was no accident or death by natural causes.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner would later confirm that Quintana had been the victim of a homicide, having died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police estimated that the fatal shooting occurred around 3 a.m.
The investigation into the death of the male victim quickly gained momentum as homicide investigators began to piece together the events that led to his murder. Their efforts led them to identify not one, but four individuals believed to be involved in the crime. This led to the issuance of arrest warrants and the subsequent apprehension of the suspects. The extensive work by the Denver Police Department indicated a complex series of events that did not end with the victim's death.
Two of the suspects, 29-year-old Kesha Perez and 49-year-old Donnie Casados, were arrested and faced the most serious charge of first-degree murder. They are considered the primary suspects in the actual shooting of Quintana. The investigation also uncovered that after the murder, there was an alleged attempt to conceal the crime. This led to the arrests of two other individuals, 35-year-old Jackson Chism and 22-year-old Isabell Medina. They were charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with a deceased human body, accessory to a crime, and tampering with physical evidence for their alleged roles in moving and concealing Quintana's body after he had been killed.
