On a tragic evening in Denver, Colorado, the life of 13-year-old Jayden Hoyle, a Black male, was cut short. On April 8, 2022, Hoyle was a passenger in a sedan with his 14-year-old friend, Adrion Foster. As they were driving south on North Peoria Street around 6 p.m., another vehicle pulled alongside, and shots were fired into their car. The gunfire caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which then veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck.
Hoyle and Foster were pronounced dead at the scene, with the medical examiner later confirming that they had died from gunshot wounds. The driver of the pickup truck, 37-year-old Uriel Reyes Medina, a father of three, was also killed in the crash.
The initial investigation into the triple homicide pointed to a suspect vehicle, described as a dark-colored, mid-sized sedan, which fled the scene after the shooting. Denver police identified three to four young men as persons of interest in the vehicle but did not have enough evidence to press charges immediately. In the months that followed, authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, offered a reward for any information that would lead to an arrest in the case, with the total eventually reaching $12,000. The families of the victims pleaded with the public for assistance in finding those responsible for the senseless act of violence that took the lives of their loved ones.
After a lengthy investigation, an arrest was finally made in connection with the murder of Jayden Hoyle. A 15-year-old male was taken into custody and charged with the crime. The suspect was later implicated in other violent crimes, including another murder and a shootout with police. While the arrest brought a sense of progress for Jayden's family, they continued to navigate their profound grief. Jayden's mother, Tasha Cooper, became an advocate against gun violence, channeling her pain into positive action within the community.
