In the heat of a New Mexico summer, on July 27, 1988, a day meant for leisure took a grim turn when a group of picnickers stumbled upon a harrowing scene. In a remote area east of North 14, near the sprawling boundary of Bernalillo County, the bodies of two men lay decomposing under the unforgiving sun. The discovery marked the beginning of a double homicide investigation that would remain unsolved for decades.
