On October 31, 2014, 48-year-old Verner Thomason was fatally shot at a bus stop on Central Avenue near Grove Street in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Thomason had a criminal history, including convictions for sexual abuse involving children, and was featured in a 2008 news report following one of his arrests.
