On August 11, 2017, 17-year-old Obed Cruz was found deceased in his Albuquerque, New Mexico home. He had been playing video games online with friends when communication ceased abruptly. Concerned, his friends visited his residence and discovered him unresponsive, leading them to call emergency services. Upon arrival, authorities found Cruz had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.
