In what his family describes as a devastating betrayal, 15-year-old Evyn Scott was killed on March 14, 2019, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The young man, who was reported missing before his body was discovered, allegedly died at the hands of individuals he considered his friends. His mother, Cassandra Scott, had a sense of foreboding on the night her son left to meet up with them.
According to law enforcement, Evyn was lured into a vehicle under false pretenses.
Inside the car were Madison Porch, who was driving, along with Scott Spencer, Alex Wilson, and another unidentified male. Hidden in the trunk was Russell Spencer, with whom Evyn had recently had a significant falling out. Once Evyn was in the car, the group began to beat him as they drove towards the East Mountains. The brutal assault culminated when they threw him out of the vehicle on the side of New Mexico Highway 14 and shot him multiple times. His body was found there days later.
The investigation led to the arrests of brothers Scott Spencer, 19, and Russell Spencer, 17, as well as 17-year-old Alex Wilson. All three were charged with kidnapping and murder. While a clear motive was not officially released by deputies, Evyn's grandmother suggested it might have stemmed from threats Evyn had made against Russell Spencer. The suspects were apprehended after Evyn's mother, having felt uneasy, noted the license plate number of the car her son got into, which ultimately led detectives to the suspects.
The tragic event left Evyn's family heartbroken, with his mother expressing profound grief and regret. She recalled her last words to her son were "I love you," and that she had spent days frantically searching for him, even contacting the very friends who were later named as his alleged killers. Scott Spencer faced charges of kidnapping and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while charges for the two 17-year-olds were still being determined shortly after their arrest. The alleged driver, Madison Porch, was named in court documents, though it was initially unclear if she would face charges.
