In the spring of 2019, the life of Jose Nieves "Pepe" Hernandez, a 47-year-old male, was abruptly cut short in a tragic act of violence in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On April 22, Hernandez, a dedicated postal worker, was going about his daily route when he reportedly witnessed a confrontation and attempted to intervene. This act of a good Samaritan would unfortunately be his last.
During the altercation, a teenager allegedly opened fire, fatally wounding Hernandez.

His legacy is one of service, both to his country and his community, and of a man who tragically lost his life while trying to help another.
