Mark's passing was part of a troubling increase in gun violence in Albuquerque during that period. By June 2021, the city had recorded at least 60 homicides, reflecting a nationwide surge in violent crime. In response, the White House announced plans to redirect federal stimulus funds to address this issue, aiming to invest in community policing and crack down on illegal firearms.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mark was held on January 28, 2021, at Family Church, followed by a Remembrance Service at St. Therese on January 29. He is survived by his parents, siblings Dominic and Angela, partner Laura, and children Miliana and Markus. He was predeceased by his grandparents and several other relatives.
