Thomas Eugene Nunn II, a 16-year-old resident of Tijeras, New Mexico, tragically lost his life on January 23, 2022. His death occurred in a tragic and violent incident in the mesa area of southwest Albuquerque. According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office Thomas Nunn was found dead, having been shot and killed.
The circumstances surrounding his death are particularly disturbing. Court documents indicate that Nunn had gone to the location to shoot guns with three other individuals.
However, the outing turned deadly when one of the guns was turned on him. His personal belongings were stolen, and his body was left at the scene. The planning and betrayal involved in this crime were highlighted by Raymond Gallegos, the chair of the New Mexico Motorcycle Rights Organization, of which Nunn was a junior board member. Gallegos noted that the involvement of friends or acquaintances made the betrayal even more horrific, given the premeditation and planning that went into the crime.
In the investigation that followed, BCSO identified one of the suspects as 20-year-old Christopher Byers. Byers is believed to have been involved in Nunn's murder, although he has not yet been booked and charged due to his current hospitalization for injuries sustained in a separate shooting incident. Once he recovers, he will be booked and charged in connection with Nunn's death.
Another individual, Elias Acuna, who was also suspected to be involved in the crime, recently died in a possible accidental shooting. This development has left the authorities and the community with the belief that there could be a third suspect still at large. The BCSO is actively looking into whether they have additional information on this potential third suspect.
The community, particularly the motorcycle community to which Nunn belonged, is actively pushing for justice in this case. Gallegos has written a letter to District Attorney Raúl Torrez, emphasizing the need to keep this case a priority for prosecution.
