On April 30, 2022, 25-year-old Nicole Ann Sanchez and her boyfriend, Jarrod Jackson, also 25, were tragically killed in their Albuquerque, New Mexico, home. The couple was found deceased at their residence located near Girard and Constitution. An investigation revealed they had been shot and killed by their roommate, Samuel Archeletta.

The events leading to the double homicide began when Archeletta called his father and confessed to shooting his roommates. He reportedly told his father that he "had enough" and "just let go." The dispute that escalated to violence was allegedly over the roommates' purported mistreatment of Archeletta's dog. This conflict had been a source of tension in the household prior to the fatal incident.

Following the murders, Archeletta fled the scene, prompting a search by law enforcement. He was later apprehended in Durango, Colorado. Archeletta was charged with two open counts of murder for the deaths of Sanchez and Jackson. In December 2023, Samuel Archeletta pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. As a result of his plea agreement, he faces a sentence of 24 years in prison.
