On a summer evening in Haverhill, Massachusetts, just a week after his graduation from Haverhill High School, 18-year-old Bryce Finn was fatally shot. The date was June 6, 2017, when Finn, a White male, answered a knock at the front door of his Rainbow Drive home around 9:30 p.m. and was shot in the chest. He was transported to Merrimack Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Investigators stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act.
A few days after the murder, a further layer of mystery was added when Finn's home was broken into by one or more intruders.
For over a year, the case remained unsolved, leaving a grieving family and community seeking answers. The breakthrough came in July 2018, when authorities announced the arrests of three men from Delaware in connection with Finn's murder. The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Nicholas Mandato of Dagsboro, 21-year-old Thomas Warner of Selbyville, and 18-year-old Kenneth Pitts of Frankford. The arrests were the result of an intensive investigation involving the Haverhill Police, Massachusetts State Police, and the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit.
The subsequent investigation revealed that the three men had traveled from Delaware to Haverhill with the intention of robbing Finn of money, drugs, and jewelry. During the confrontation at Finn's front door, it was Kenneth Pitts who shot him. In February 2022, Pitts pleaded guilty in Salem Superior Court to manslaughter, armed assault with intent to rob, and carrying a firearm without a license. Following the arrests, Bryce's mother, Megan Finn, expressed the immense pain her family had endured and their hope for justice for their son, who she described as bringing "happiness and love to so many lives."
