On a cold Valentine's Day evening in Boston, what began as a simple delivery turned into a fatal encounter for 37-year-old Tarek Mroue. The father of three was navigating the streets of Roxbury on February 14, 2018, attempting to deliver a washer and dryer when he became lost. While seeking directions, an impatient motorist behind him began honking, sparking a verbal exchange that would tragically escalate.
The other driver, later identified as Tyrone Worrell, 39, of Dorchester, got out
of his vehicle and slashed one of the tires on Mroue's truck before driving away. Stranded, Mroue and his companion called for roadside assistance and waited. However, the situation took a horrifying turn when Worrell returned to the scene on Winthrop Street a short time later, this time armed with a firearm. He fired multiple shots into Mroue's vehicle, striking and killing him.
A witness at the scene was able to provide police with a description of the assailant and his vehicle. This crucial information led Boston Police to locate and apprehend Worrell within minutes, about a half-mile from the scene of the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and charged with the murder of Tarek Mroue.
Tyrone Worrell was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm. During his initial court proceedings, it was revealed that he had allegedly swallowed a quantity of heroin after his arrest, which delayed his arraignment as he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Worrell was ordered held without bail.
