In the early morning hours of April 28, 2018, the life of Dwayne Thomas, a 34-year-old Black / African American male from Boston, Massachusetts, was tragically cut short. He was discovered on Hartford Street in the Dorchester neighborhood around 2:45 a.m., suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response from authorities, Dwayne Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death marked the 16th homicide in the city of Boston that year.
Dwayne Keon Thomas was a father to a son and a daughter. He was survived by his parents, Dwayne "Gannie" Thomas and Alvenia Reeves, as well as his brothers and a sister. His passing left a void in the lives of his family and friends, who cherished his memory.
In the days following the shooting, the Boston Police Department launched an investigation into his death. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect. On May 4, 2018, Boston Police arrested 29-year-old Derrell Russell of Plymouth in connection with the fatal shooting. Russell was subsequently charged with the murder of Dwayne Thomas.
