On the evening of June 7, 2021, tragedy struck in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston. Fermin A. Baez, a 32-year-old man from Dorchester, was in the vicinity of 1510 Tremont Street when he was shot. The incident occurred at approximately 8:47 PM, shattering the night's calm. Responding officers found Baez suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Baez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. A significant development in the case came on December 11, 2023. At around 5:00 PM, members of the Boston Police Fugitive Unit apprehended a suspect in the area of 450 Canterbury Street in Mattapan. The individual taken into custody was identified as 19-year-old Zykaris Hamilton. At the time of his arrest, Hamilton was wanted on warrants for the murder of Fermin Baez and for unlawful possession of a firearm. He was expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court to face these charges.
