On December 31, 1911, Marshal Ernest M. Brown of the Lakeview Police Department in Oregon met a tragic end while performing his duties. Brown, who was 52 years old at the time of his death, was responding to a domestic disturbance call.
The incident began when Brown was summoned to a residence by the younger brother of the man involved in the disturbance. The brother had reported that his older sibling had been beating his wife and had threatened to shoot anyone who approached the house.
