Dennis Robert Hall, an 80-year-old Caucasian male, was a long-time resident of Beaverton, Oregon. Born in Portland on December 25, 1937, he led a full life that included earning a Bachelor's Degree in Physics from the University of Portland. His professional career was spent as a Junior Design Engineer at Tektronix, where he worked from 1962 until his retirement in the 1980s. He had a passion for duck hunting, cooking, and listening to talk radio.

On the morning of Friday, April 6, 2018, the tranquility of his Beaverton home was shattered. At approximately 5:19 a.m., a 911 call was made from his residence on Southwest Hoodview Place. The caller, his 47-year-old son Gregory Dennis Hall, informed the police that he had shot his father. When officers arrived, they found Dennis Robert Hall suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, Gregory Dennis Hall was arrested and charged with the murder of his father. The Washington County Major Crimes Team was assigned to investigate the case. During questioning, Gregory admitted to shooting his father, stating that it was the result of an argument. It became apparent throughout the legal proceedings that Gregory suffered from a chronic mental illness.

In July 2020, a judge found Gregory Dennis Hall guilty except for insanity on one count of murder with a firearm. The court determined that due to a lack of adequate medication, he was not fully responsible for his actions at the time of the killing. Consequently, he was ordered to spend the remainder of his life at the Oregon State Hospital under the supervision of the Psychiatric Security Review Board.
