On May 21, 2020, a disturbance in Sandy, Oregon, ended in the tragic death of Zachary Richard Saylor, a 27-year-old White / Caucasian male from Canby. The incident occurred in the late afternoon, around 5:10 p.m., in the 15000 block of Bluff Road. Witnesses in the area reported hearing a disturbance followed by the sound of gunshots, prompting a response from local law enforcement.
Upon their arrival at the scene, police officers discovered Saylor deceased.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led authorities to a suspect. A person associated with the shooting had reportedly driven away from the scene but was swiftly detained by police. The individual taken into custody was identified as 26-year-old Joseph David Paul Anaya.
The arrest of Anaya was made without incident. Following the apprehension of the suspect, police assured the community that there was no ongoing threat. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting continued after the arrest.
