In the early hours of a Saturday morning in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood of Southeast Portland, the life of 31-year-old Sharline Esah, a female, came to a tragic end. On April 30, 2022, police were called to a residence on Southeast Woodward Street shortly after 2:00 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, officers found Sharline Esah deceased.
A subsequent autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner would confirm that she died from a gunshot wound, and her death was officially ruled a homicide. Also found at the scene was her husband, 30-year-old Lopez Uehara, who was also deceased. The Medical Examiner later determined that Uehara had also died from a gunshot wound, and his death was ruled a suicide.
Portland Police Homicide Unit detectives began an investigation into the deaths. Based on the initial information gathered at the scene, investigators quickly concluded that they were not searching for any outstanding suspects. The case was investigated as a murder-suicide, with Lopez Uehara identified as the sole suspect in the death of his wife, Sharline Esah. The authorities have not released a motive for the tragic event. Following the incident, Esah's family requested privacy as they mourned their loss.
