Londan Quade-McKenzi Baker was a nine-month-old Black male infant whose life ended inside his family’s home in Moorefield, West Virginia, on the evening of April 1, 2021. Born on June 22, 2020, in Petersburg, Londan was remembered as a playful baby who loved spending time with his mother and sister. His family said he enjoyed visiting his grandparents, playing with his grandmother, fighting sleep, and riding on a John Deere tractor with his grandfather.
At approximately 6:30 that Thursday evening, Moorefield police officers were sent to a residence in the 500 block of Winchester Avenue after receiving a report of gunfire. Inside the home, officers discovered three people suffering from gunshot wounds. Londan and his mother, 38-year-old Brandi Renae Baker, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Hardy County medical examiner.
Londan’s sister, 10-year-old Saige McKenzi Baker-Brewer, was also found wounded inside the residence.
Emergency personnel transported Saige from the home for treatment. She was ultimately transferred to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown in critical condition, but the severity of her injuries proved fatal. She died the following morning, leaving all three members of the immediate household dead from the shooting.
Moorefield Police Chief Stephen W. Riggleman said the evidence and investigators’ initial observations indicated that Brandi Baker shot both of her children before turning the gun on herself. Authorities therefore treated the deaths as a double murder followed by suicide rather than as an attack committed by an unknown intruder. Police continued investigating the scene after announcing their preliminary conclusion, but no evidence was publicly reported identifying another participant or suggesting that anyone else was being sought.
Because the person identified by police as the shooter died at the residence, there was no arrest, criminal prosecution, trial, or conviction. No surviving suspect was charged in connection with Londan’s death or the death of his sister. The case instead ended as a devastating family murder-suicide in which two children were killed by their mother before she took her own life.
Londan and Saige were later remembered together during a celebration of life held on April 18, 2021, at Believer’s Victory Center in Moorefield. Their relatives described Londan through the small but cherished moments of his brief life—playing with his family, spending time at his grandparents’ home, and sharing a close bond with his sister. Memorial contributions were directed toward establishing a future scholarship in Saige’s name, creating a lasting tribute after a single evening of violence took the lives of both children and their mother.
