Richard Vance, a 34-year-old White/Caucasian male from Branchland, West Virginia, died after a shooting on the evening of October 13, 2022, in Lincoln County. The violence unfolded along Sand Gap Road near Branchland, a rural area where the report of gunfire brought West Virginia State Police and local units to the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. What began as an emergency call quickly became a homicide investigation when Vance was found suffering from a gunshot wound.
