On May 18, 2019, Matrell Michael Eugene Johnson, an 18-year-old resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, lost his life to gun violence in a tragic incident that also claimed the life of another teenager, Royal Abram, also 18 years old. The shooting occurred outside the Iowa Smoke Shop in Cedar Rapids.
